Davor O's "NEW TENDENCIES"
After his amazingly precocious album, "Das Sozial Freischwebende", Croatian techno wunderkind Davor O steps into darker waters on the aptly named "New Tendencies" EP. These six tracks will flex knees and blow minds.
"Moka Bay" is a futuristic beach party, as rays of sunset peek through silicon silhouettes of cybernetic dancers. Eerie bells ride through looped chirps, as cleansing waves of synths bubble between the toes.
"Chiq Pearls" gets percussive on your ass, its tight groove tiptoeing through hip-shaking gamelan chimes, insistent bass pulses, and dub effects.
Dusk falls with "Ice Baby," as young robots have one last drink (or something stronger) before succumbing to the dancefloor. Synths light up like switchboard impulses, as shadows of mechanical futures swirl amid dark pads and snatches of vocals.
"Betray Me" starts off all shoulders and swagger before yielding to an undertow of bass pulses. Dancers shaking bells look nervously over their shoulders as grinding synths come closer, closer, reverbed drums signaling menace - betrayed, indeed.
"Whales Making Love" offers a 6am second wind, strong beats and stabs striding through a forest of chirps and whirs before grand synths sweep one into dancefloor oblivion.
Rising Finnish star Juho Kahilainen (BPitch Control, Frozen North, Initial Cuts) rounds out the release with a beautiful remix of "Moka Bay," morphing it into a sleek, bright-eyed schaffel groove.
